The major axis of NGC 253 has a dimension of about 26' (which is nearly the diameter of the full moon!) and fits nicely in the field of view of the ST10 in primary focus. When displayed with "north up" as in this image, you are looking from down left into the galaxy. Image processed with CCDSharp and DDP. A wider field arround NGC 253 together with NGC 288, photographed nearly 20 years later with a much smaller telescope but a "much more modern" camera can be found here. |

| Bemerkungen: |
Mit einer Ausdehnung der großen Achse von gut 26' (nahezu Vollmonddurchmesser!) passt NGC 253 wunderbar in das Gesichtsfeld der ST10 im Primärfokus. Wird sie wie hier in der Orientierung "Norden oben" dargestellt, so schaut man quasi von schräg unten in die Galaxie hinein. Das Bild wurde mit Hilfe von CCDSharp und DDP bearbeitet. Ein größeres Feld um NGC 253 zusammen mit NGC 288, fotografiert fast 20 Jahre später mit einem viel kleineren Teleskop, aber einer "viel moderneren Kamera" ist hier zu finden. |
