Remarks: |
The Cocoon
Nebula IC5146 is located in the constellation Cygnus. It owes its name to
its unmistakable appearance. A large dark nebula stretches away from the
cocoon like a comet's tail. This is Barnard 168, which is still largely
visible here. Star formation is taking place within this dark cloud. The
cocoon is only a visible part of this star formation. The star cluster
Collinder 470 is located in the center of the cocoon nebula. The light from
these stars is responsible for the ionization of the hydrogen and the
delicate reflection nebulae in which the cocoon is enveloped. |
Bemerkungen: |
Der Kokon-Nebel IC5146 befindet
sich im Sternbild Schwan. Seinen Namen hat er seinem unverwechselbaren
Aussehen zu verdanken. Wie ein Kometenschweif erstreckt sich ein großer
Dunkelnebel vom Kokon wegzeigend. Es handelt sich um Barnard 168, der hier
zu großen Teilen noch sichtbar ist. Innerhalb dieser Dunkelwolke findet
Sternentstehung statt.
