Remarks:

NGC 2903 is located in the western part of Leo, almost at the border with the constellation Cancer. It is one of the most prominent galaxies in the spring sky. Its surface brightness and size make the galaxy a rewarding photographic target. NGC 2903 is a barred spiral galaxy, with its bar clearly visible. Slightly left to NGC 2903 lies the dwarf galaxy UGC 5086, a companion of the galaxy. Right to the main object is an galaxy group, some members of which show clear signs of gravitational interaction. Throughout the image, numerous background galaxies can be seen, some of which appear noticeably reddened.

Bemerkungen:

NGC 2903 steht im westlichen Teil des Löwen, beinahe an der Grenze zum Sternbild Krebs. Es ist eine der prominentesten Galaxien am Frühjahrshimmel. Ihre Flächenhelligkeit sowie ihre Ausdehnung machen die Galaxie zu einem dankbaren fotografischen Ziel. Bei NGC 2903 handelt es sich um eine Balkenspiralgalaxie, deren Balken sehr deutlich zu erkennen ist. Etwas links von NGC 2903 steht die Zwerggalaxie UGC 5086, eine Begleiterin der Galaxie. Rechts vom Hauptobjekt befindet sich eine Galaxiengruppe, von der einige Mitglieder deutliche Anzeichen von gravitativer Wechselwirkung zeigen. Im ganzen Bild sind zahlreiche Hintergrundgalaxien sichtbar, die sich teilweise deutlich gerötet zeigen.
