The four galaxies shown in the constellation Grus have a southern declination of -42° and form what is known as the ‘Grus Quartet’. The brightest member of the quartet, NGC 7582, is in the centre and is an early barred spiral galaxy of the SBas(rs) type. Its dimensions are 5.0′ × 2.1′ and, given its distance of 69 million light-years, a maximum diameter of 100,000 light-years is inferred. It is therefore one of the larger examples among spiral galaxies. Further to the north-east lie NGC 7590 at a distance of 9.4′ and NGC 7599 at 12.2′, as well as, somewhat further to the south-west, NGC 7552, another barred spiral. All four galaxies are interacting with one another.

Die vier abgebildeten Galaxien im Sternbild Kranich besitzen eine südliche Deklination von - 42° und bilden das sogenannte „Grus-Quartett“. Das hellste Mitglied des Quartetts, NGC 7582 steht in der Mitte und ist eine frühe Balkenspiralgalaxie des Typs SBas(rs). Ihre Abmessungen sind 5,0′ × 2,1′ und aus ihrer Entfernung von 69 Millionen Lichtjahren wird ein maximaler Durchmesser von 100.000 Lichtjahren gefolgert. Somit zählt sie zu den großen Exemplaren unter den Spiralgalaxien. Weiter nordöstlich stehen noch NGC 7590 in 9,4′ und NGC 7599 in 12,2′ Entfernung sowie etwas abgeschlagen südwestlich NGC 7552, eine weitere Balkenspirale. Alle vier Galaxien befinden sich miteinander in Wechselwirkung.
