Remarks:	M97, also called the Owl Nebula, was named by William Parsons, the 3rd Earl of Rosse. Parsons observed the nebula in 1848 and made a hand drawn illustration of his observation. If you look at his original drawing you immediately start to grin because his drawing looks more like a smiley then like an owl. M97 was discovered earlier in 1781 by french astronomer Pierre Méchain. Messier later added this nebula to his famous catalog. The faint outer shell of this planetary nebula is clearly visible. Bemerkungen:	M97 wird von William Parsons, dem dritten Grafen von Rosse, auch Eulennebel genannt. Parsons beobachtete den Nebel 1848 und fertigte eine Zeichnung an. Betrachtet man diese, muss man unweigerlich schmunzeln, denn das Bild schaut vielmehr aus wie eine grinsende Fratze, nicht wie eine Eule. M97 wurde 1781 durch den französischen Astronomen Pierre Méchain entdeckt. Messier nahm den Nebel später in seinen berühmten Katalog auf. Die schwache, äussere Schale des PN ist auf der Aufnahme deutlich zu erkennen. Ein Bild von M97 bei f=9970 mm ist hier zu finden.
