The interesting part of this image is NGC 6908, which was discovered by Albert Marth on September, 24th 1864. Most likely he classified it as a diffuse nebula region belonging to NGC 6907 but from the image above it is obvious, that NGC 6908 is a background galaxy seen through the spiral arms of NGC 6907.

Update February, 13th 2007: Nearly three years after making the image we "discovered" a bright supernova in the image: SN2004bv (the blue star near the center of NGC 6907 in 5:00h direction). This SN is of type Ia and was discovered on May 24th 2004, only three weeks before the photo was made. See here and here for more informations of SN2004bv.

Interessant an diesem Bild ist die Hintergrundgalaxie NGC 6908, die, von Albert Marth am 24. September 1864 entdeckt, Einzug in den NGC Katalog hielt und von ihm wohl als diffuser Nebel, der zu NGC 6907 gehört, identifiziert wurde. Wie man im Bild oben deutlich sieht, ist NCG 6908 jedoch tatsächlich eine Hintergrundgalaxie, die durch die Arme von NGC 6907 hindurch scheint.

Update 13. Februar 2007: Fast drei Jahre, nachdem das Bild gewonnen wurde, haben wir eine Helle Supernova auf ihm "entdeckt": SN2004bv (der blaue Stern nahe dem Zentrum von NGC 6907 in Richtung 5:00 Uhr). Diese SN ist vom Typ Ia und wurde am 24. Mai 2004, also gerade mal drei Wochen vor dem Zeitpunkt, an dem das Bild oben entstand, entdeckt.
