Since the times of Baade and Minkowski it is believed that NGC 5128 contains two colliding galaxies. In this context the wide and chaotic absorption lane is of special interest. The inverted b&w version (see below) shows segments of outer shells in the contrast enhanced version on the left side. The right side (processed with a Larsen Sekania filter) shows, that this shells surround the central region nearly complete. In addition the Centaurus A jet (in 10:15h direction seen from the GX center) can be seen.

| Bemerkungen: |
Seit Baade und Minkowski vermutet man, dass NGC 5128 zwei kollidierende Galaxien enthält. Das breite und chaotische Absorptionsband ist in diesem Zusammenhang von besonderem Interesse. Die invertierte
s/w-Version (siehe unten) links zeigt in der Kontrastverstärkung Segmente
äußerer Hüllstrukturen, die rechte Version (bearbeitet mit Larsen
Sekanina-Filter), dass diese Hüllen den Zentralbereich der Galaxie nahezu
vollständig umgeben. Außerdem kommt der Jet (vom Zentrum in Richtung 10:15
weisend) heraus. Das Bild wurde mit Hilfe von CCDSharp und DDP bearbeitet. |
