The small dwarf galaxy Holmberg IX left below M81 and UGC 5247 at the right side of the upper edge of the image can be seen. Looking to the inverted, contrast enhanced version of M81 (see below) two dim bent "nebulae" can be detected. Comparing the image with an image of the NASA Spitzer infrared telescope, it can be assumed that this nebulae are the dim outer spiral arms of the galaxy. DDP and unsharp masking were used for the central parts of the galaxies. |

Links unten neben M81 zeigt sich als kleines Wölkchen die Zwerggalaxie
Holmberg IX und am oberen Bildrand rechts ist UGC 5247 zu erkennen. In der invertierten kontrastverstärkten Version (siehe unten) kommt zusätzlich ein bogenförmiger schwacher “Nebel“ links und oberhalb von M81 heraus, der nach einem Vergleich mit der Aufnahme des NASA Spitzer Infrarot Teleskops den schwachen äußeren Armen der Galaxie entsprechen dürfte. DDP und unscharfe Maskierung wurden für die Zentralgebiete der Galaxien benutzt. |
