Remarks:

The “Whirlpool Galaxy” M 51 has a widely defined spiral pattern and two spiral arms. At the northern end of M 51, you can see its companion NGC 5195, an SB0/a galaxy.
The GIF animation below shows M51 superimposed: first, the image from the Capella Observatory from 2008 and then the current image from 2025. Numerous stars have changed their position between the years the images were taken, and two “fast movers” have been specially marked. It is also striking that the position changes have all occurred in roughly the same direction.

Die „Whirlpool-Galaxie“ M 51 zeigt sich mit einem weitflächig definierten Spiralmuster und zwei Spiralarmen. Am nördlichen Ende von M 51 sieht man
den Begleiter NGC 5195, eine SB0/a Galaxie.
Die Gif-Animation unten zeigt M51 aufeinander registriert: einmal das Bild des Capella-Observatoriums aus dem Jahr 2008 und zum anderen das aktuelle Bild aus dem Jahr 2025. Zahlreiche Sterne haben zwischen den Aufnahmejahren ihre Position verändert, zwei "Schnellläufer" sind besonders markiert worden. Auffällig ist darüber hinaus, dass die Positionsveränderungen alle in ungefähr dieselbe Richtung erfolgt sind.
