Remarks:

NGC 6559/IC 4685 is an emission nebula located in the constellation Sagittarius. It often appears as an appendage of Messier 8 in wide-field images, but we wanted to give this nebula its own stage for once. However, part of Messier 8 still extends into the right side of the frame, where the small, blue-glowing reflection nebula IC 4678 is particularly remarkable. The currently perhaps most well-known image of this region was released just a few days ago by the Vera C. Rubin Observatory.In the lower left of the image, centrally located within a large H II region, stands the star HD 165921, a B1V-type star whose UV radiation is the source of the ionization of the surrounding hydrogen gas. Starting from this star, a small dark cloud winds its way through the nebula, resembling a Chinese dragon. This dark nebula is cataloged as Barnard 303. This small dark nebula points toward a reflection nebula, NGC 6559, which lies directly behind it. In front of it, you can see a beautiful structure that astronomers refer to as "Bright Rims."In the upper left of the image, another small nebula, LDN 227, is visible. It appears to have carved out a cave-like opening in the dark nebula Barnard 91. This small jewel is framed by blue-glowing reflection nebulae.

Bemerkungen:

NGC 6559/IC 4685 ist ein Gasnebel im Sternbild Schütze. Häufig ist er auf Weitfeldaufnahmen als Anhängsel von Messier 8 zu sehen, doch wir wollten diesem Nebel einmal seine eigene Bühne geben. Ein Teil von Messier 8 ragt jedoch rechts noch ins Bild hinein, bemerkenswert ist dort der kleine, blau leuchtende Reflexionsnebel IC 4678. Das derzeit vielleicht bekannteste Bild der Region wurde erst vor wenigen Tagen vom Vera C. Rubin Observatory veröffentlicht.Links unten im Bild steht zentral in einer großen H-II-Region der Stern HD 165921, ein B1V-Stern, dessen UV-Strahlung die Quelle für die Ionisation des Wasserstoffgases ist. Von diesem Stern ausgehend schlängelt sich eine kleine dunkle Wolke durch den Nebel, die an einen chinesischen Drachen erinnert. Katalogisiert ist dieser Dunkelnebel als Barnard 303. Dieser kleine Dunkelnebel weist auf einen Reflexionsnebel, NGC 6559, der sich direkt dahinter befindet. Vorgelagert erkennt man eine schöne Formation, die Astronomen als „Bright Rims“ bezeichnen.Oben links im Bild ist ein weiterer kleiner Nebel, LDN 227, zu sehen. Dieser scheint regelrecht eine Höhle in den Dunkelnebel Barnard 91 geblasen zu haben. Eingefasst wird dieses kleine Juwel von blau leuchtenden Reflexionsnebeln.
