This cometary globule in the constellation of Puppis is fairly well known from David Malin's photograph. He called it "God's Hand", and indeed it looks like a huge hand grasping at the nearby spiral galaxy PGC 21338 (ESO 257-19). CG4 is about 1300 light years away, and the head is about 1.5 light years in diameter. The tail which gives this globule its cometary appearance, is about 8 light years long. See also CG2. Diese kometarische Globule im Sternbild Puppis (Achterdeck) ist durch David Malins Aufnahme einigermaßen bekannt geworden. Er nannte sie "Gottes Hand", und tatsächlich sieht es aus, als würde eine riesige Hand nach der nahen Spiralgalaxie PGC 21338 (ESO 257-19) greifen. CG4 ist etwa 1300 Lichtjahre von uns entfernt, und der Durchmesser des Kopfes beträgt ungefähr 1,5 Lichtjahre. Der Schweif, welcher der Globule ihr kometarisches Aussehen verleiht, ist circa 8 Lichtjahre lang. Siehe auch CG2. Das Bild wurde mit Hilfe von CCD-Sharp und "digital development" (DDP) bearbeitet. |
